In many industrial and emergency scenarios, the most dangerous enemy is invisible and odorless — toxic and hazardous gases. Today, let's take a few minutes to talk about gas detection, and why more and more companies and rescue teams choose to carry a portable gas detector.
Fact 1: Can Oxygen Levels Really Be "Too High" or "Too Low"?

Oxygen deficiency(<19.5%VOL)
Common in confined spaces, underground pipelines, and tank interiors. A person can lose consciousness within minutes in an oxygen-deficient environment, often without warning.
Oxygen enrichment(>23.5%VOL)
Significantly increases the fire risk of combustible materials and is a contributing factor in many industrial fires and explosions.
Fact 2: What Does "LEL" Mean for Combustible Gas?

LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) is the minimum concentration of a combustible gas in air that can ignite. Once the concentration reaches a set percentage of LEL (alarms are typically set at 10%-25% LEL), an explosion risk exists. Combustible gas detection covering 0-100%LEL provides early warning long before the true explosive limit is reached, buying precious time for evacuation and response.
Fact 3: Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulfide — the "Invisible Killers"

Carbon monoxide
Colorless and odorless. Once inhaled, it binds with hemoglobin and blocks oxygen delivery in the body — one of the most common poisoning risks near confined spaces and combustion equipment.
Hydrogen sulfide
Has a rotten-egg smell at low levels, but at higher concentrations it quickly paralyzes the sense of smell — "can't smell it" does not mean "it's not there." It's a key monitoring target in petrochemical and wastewater treatment industries.
Who Especially Needs This?
